Orthotic Fitter

​You must be 18 years or older and meet the following requirements to be eligible to take the ABC orthotic fitter certification exam. Please refer to the  Fitter Candidate Guide for specific eligibility requirements.

There are two pathways for certification:

Experience

Pathway 1

• Completion of 1,000 hours of supervised orthotic fitting patient care experience obtained either before or after completion of the education course. Any experience with initial patient evaluations and final fitting/deliveries of a prefabricated orthosis must be done under Direct Supervision.

Pathway 2

• ​Completion of 500 hours of supervised orthotic fitting patient care experience obtained either before or after completion of the education course.
• Must currently hold a nationally recognized certification/license in a related allied health profession (e.g., Medical Assistant, Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapist/PTA, Occupational Therapist/OTA, etc.) to apply under this pathway.​​
