What is an ABC Certified Fitter-orthotics?

An ABC Certified Fitter-orthotics (CFo) is a health care professional specifically educated and trained in the provision of certain orthoses. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management. An ABC certified fitter-orthotics is competent to practice orthotics within a scope of practice that is specific to fitting certain custom fitted, prefabricated and off-the-shelf orthoses.

Scope of Practice

ABC's  Certified Fitter-orthotics Scope of Practice​​ details the specific functions of a certified orthotic fitter. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management.

ABC credentialed individuals must adhere to the ABC Scope of Practice for their credential and/or the scope of practice for any relevant related licensure they hold.

Additionally, the Certified Fitter-orthotics is required to support and conform to the  Code of Professional Responsibility which promotes and assures the overall welfare of the patient and the integrity of the profession.
