Pedorthist

You must be 18 years or older and meet the following requirements to be eligible to take the pedorthist exam. Please refer to the Pedorthist Candidate Guide for specific eligibility requirements.

Education

* Please note that NCOPE and CAAHEP no longer approve/accredit pedorthic pre-certification education programs, but anyone who previously completed those programs may still be eligible to take the ABC pedorthist exam.

Experience

  • Completion of 1,000 hours of supervised pedorthic patient care experience obtained either before or after completion of your pedorthic education program. Any experience with initial patient evaluations and the final fitting/deliveries related to a custom pedorthic device must be done under Direct Supervision.

Please refer to the Scope of Practice for more information regarding Direct Supervision.

We encourage you to use the Pedorthic Exam Candidate Self-Assessment Checklist as a tool to guide you through your work experience and to make sure that you are getting the type and amount of experience in each area that the profession expects.
