Mastectomy Fitter
You must be 18 years or older and meet the following requirements to be eligible to take the mastectomy fitter certification exam. Please refer to the Fitter Candidate Guide for specific eligibility requirements.
There are two pathways for certification:
Education
Requirements for Both Pathways
- High school diploma, GED certificate, college transcript or World Education Service (WES) Credential Evaluation (only applicable if you received your education in a foreign country)
- Completion of an ABC approved mastectomy fitter pre-certification education course
Experience
Pathway 1
- Completion of 120 hours of supervised mastectomy fitting patient care experience obtained either before or after completion of the education course. Any experience with initial patient evaluations and final fitting/deliveries involving a mastectomy form must be done under Direct Supervision.

Pathway 2
- Completion of 60 hours of supervised mastectomy fitting patient care experience obtained either before or after completion of the education course.
- You must currently hold a nationally recognized certification in a related allied health profession. (e.g., RN, LPN, Medical Assistant, Certified Breast Care Nurse (BCN), Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Certified Breast Patient Navigator, Certified Clinical Anaplastologist (CCA), etc.) to apply under this pathway.
