O&P Technician

You must be 18 years or older and meet the following requirements to be eligible to take the orthotic and/or prosthetic technician certification exam. Please refer to the Technician Candidate Guide for specific eligibility requirements.

There are two pathways for certification:

Pathway 1

Education Only

  • ​​Successfully complete a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)/National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) approved technician education program

Pathway 2

Education and Experience

  • ​​​​Education:  High school diploma, GED certificate, college transcript or World Education Service (WES) Credential Evaluation (only applicable if you received your education in a foreign country)
  • Experience: Completion of two years of technical experience in the discipline(s) of application under the supervision of a certified/licensed practitioner or ABC certified technician in that discipline(s)
