World of POPortunities

We are thrilled with the momentum the WhatIsPOP Career Awareness initiative has gained since its start nearly two years ago. Thank you to all our ambassadors and supporters who have and continue to make this project a success!

Here are a few POPortunities we are working on now…

Pilot Programs & Partnerships – from Atlanta to Detroit to L.A., we continue to build on our grass-root efforts among local communities through far-reaching partnerships and events. WhatIsPOP is partnering with Atlanta’s Gwinnett Stripers - a Minor League Baseball team in the International League and Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. WhatIsPOP can also be seen at games for the Detroit City Football Club (professional soccer club) and Los Angeles Sparks WNBA team.

One-on-one Connections – students, teachers and community members have reached out to our WhatIsPOP team to learn more or get involved. A couple of noteworthy examples include: A high school student who attended a STEM event is now being mentored by a Kennesaw State University MSPO student on her class 3D prosthetics project. And, a high school teacher who saw WhatIsPOP at a conference requested help with a class project to design POP devices. University of Washington MSPO faculty and students are now supporting her and providing feedback on her student’s work.

Paralympics, Olympics & Beyond – we are working with NBC Universal on some exciting online coverage opportunities during the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. We are also scheduled to participate in several conferences this summer and fall, including the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP) National Conference, the Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA) Future Health Professionals Conference and the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) National Diversity in STEM Conference.

Don’t forget! There are tons of free career awareness resources available in our online Ambassador toolkit and storefront. Look for the latest additions to the toolkit: O&P Master’s Program Guide and Shadowing Guide.
