We have reached an exciting milestone of serving the orthotic and prosthetic profession for 75 years. ABC was initially established in 1948 by a dedicated group of orthotists, prosthetists and physicians who saw a need to develop standards for orthotic and prosthetic clinical care.
We continue to evolve as the profession changes but stand true to our early focus on quality patient care. Our board and staff are committed to ABC’s mission of establishing and advocating for the highest patient care and organizational standards and do so in hopes of helping change lives.
In the last 75 years, we are proud to have accomplished a great deal, such as developing a code of ethics, helping to establish the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists and the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education. We also created the nation’s first OP&P Facility Accreditation program, implemented the first mandatory continuing education program for the profession and changed our name a few times along the way.
These successes would not have been possible without our hardworking and dedicated credential holders, volunteers and staff. Thank you to all who support ABC. We look forward to another 75 years of serving the OP&P community. Join us in celebrating this milestone throughout the year.
