WhatIsPOP Ramps Up

The last few months have been very busy for the career awareness campaign as we participated in several national and local events which kept our POP Ambassadors busy representing the profession.

Where we’ve been:

OCTOBER

Detroit Free Press Marathon Health & Fitness Expo – During the Expo, we talked with over 500 attendees at our table about POP careers. We also had an uptick in traffic on the WhatIsPOP website in the days following the event.

NCHSE – The National Consortium of Health Science Education held its annual conference in Seattle. ABC’s Megan Matijevich took to the main stage during a lunch event to speak to attendees about WhatIsPOP. We talked with many more attendees at our booth and had lots of great conversations and connections.

SACNAS – The nonprofit Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science held their annual conference in Portland. POP Ambassadors Sal Gonzales and Leslie Martinez represented WhatIsPOP at the event and talked with many attendees who are interested in a healthcare related career.

NOVEMBER

STEM for HER Day – Held in Washington, DC in early November, this local event attracted about 400 young women who are interested in STEM careers. We sponsored a panel discussion lead by Megan Matijevich that featured POP Ambassadors Nina Bondre, CPO, FAAOP, Resident Adesua Ojeifoh and Emily Zoltai, CPO, who shared their stories of joining and working in the POP profession. It was a great experience for our Ambassadors and generated a great deal of feedback from the audience.

What’s Next?

We look forward to participating in additional activities throughout our pilot community cities of Detroit, Atlanta and Los Angeles.
