In February, WhatIsPOP ambassadors, Rebecca Cook, CPO and Jillian Dunn, MSPO student at UT Southwestern , were joined by ABC’s Outreach Development Manager, Jim Lawson, and staff from our consulting team to participate in an exciting day of activities at the UT Austin’s STEM Girl Day.
The event hosted over 9,000 K-8th grade students from all over Texas, intending to spark creativity and inspiration for future STEM careers like prosthetics, orthotics and pedorthics!
Our WhatIsPOP team gave hands-on demonstrations of plaster casting and the use of a myoelectric prosthesis. They also showcased the prosthetic tail custom made for Winter the Dolphin, as seen in the movie A Dolphin’s Tale, and provided fun POP themed giveaways.
This is the first of many events we plan to attend as we build partnerships with groups and organizations that specifically support high school and college students in STEM, technical education, science and health careers.
